OK.....
alive: she's a pretty pointless part in any actual plans. All she is is an emotional roadblock for character development.
dead: She suddenly is part of a huge ass trap to get Naraku, revives a dead character, is revieled to be a huge part of Naraku's reasoning, and brought up a ton of times.
hmm......shouldn't um....this be reversed? I mean unless RT is really planning on bringing her back, she should have gotten all the Kikyou plot importance stuff done before hand. _________________

I disagree. She was only pointless in Inuyasha tachi's plans, which were really not even plans to begin with, actually. I saw Kikyou wandering around trying to destroy Naraku herself for most of the story. That doesn't make her pointless, it just means she would rather work without the assistance of Inuyasha's group. _________________
the solo person never defeats the enemy without joining the group. That's cliche 101. Kikyou's real importance was always emotional while alive IMO. She was just glorified backstory really. She was just after Naraku....no real complicated trap or plot just "I'll get my revenge."
Not trying to hurt your feelings or anything; I just dissagree. _________________
I think it should also reflect the fact that RT never intended her to be alive that long anyway, but the rabid fans sort of demanded it. Look at Urusei Yatsura....Lum wasn't even supposed to be in it much farther than the first chapter, and the fans loved her so much that she became the main character.
I think RT brought back Kikyou for the fans...and partly out of curiosity or whimsy. But I think she also stuck to her original plan. So it comes out as sort of backwards. _________________ It's just four more miles. Everybody smile!
I just wonder if her original plan involved Inu ending up with her or not because....well he always went for her over kagome whenever both were there....and Kagome even mentions her still so....awe screw it. This manga should have ended when naraku got shoved into the other realm and he and Kikyou didn't escape. or at least that be the end of teh Naraku arc. Have a new mainvillian then. _________________
Also...fans demanded her? Last time I checked every fangirl hated her and worshipped kagome. Granted I know tons of people complained about her dying again in spider web arc but she wasn't really a fan demand was she? _________________
hmm....what are the japanese polls then? How popular is she in japan? I'd be seriously shocked if the superpower schoolgirl stereotype is less popular than the anti-hero miko in Japan.
if Kikyou is the more popular though....man, RT has some balls going against the fans after 10 years of waiting. I respect her for that....stupid but it's respectable. _________________

I know that the anime must have some clues as to how her character's viewed in Japan. The writers of the show made her out to be antagonist galore. Constantly trying to get at Inuyasha and Naraku, she hates EVERYBODY and is not a very nice person in the anime.
They even make SESSHOUMARU out to be a better person than Kikyou, which I think I've mentioned before. The writers make him out to be a thousand times more generous and likable than he is in the manga, while Kikyou is a thousand times for unfavorable. I'm pretty sure that's why Sesshoumaru got his character single and Kikyou didn't get hers.
In any case, that should give somewhat of a clue as to how Kikyou is viewed in Japan, and it's not looking too good, lol! _________________
