You must remember that Paolini was very young when he wrote the first book, and he needs some time to refine his writing skill. That may be why it seemed lame.

No, his writing skills were marvelous in my opinion (ignore the 'non-critical on writing style as long as it's okay' person over here) the plot just seemed annoying to me. Actually...
