www.religioustolerance.com gives this information in the Buddhism section; something I never knew before and made me giggle a little:

"Some Buddhists believe in Miroku, the "future Buddha." They expect Buddha to be reborn in our future and spread Buddhism further."

I assume this is where Miroku's name came from in the first place?

Judging by the Buddhists I know, a vast majority of them who know about Inuyasha are the ones who are laughing the hardest about his antics.

For those who ARE offended, they wouldn't be less offended if Miroku wasn't his name, lol.

Guys, I told you this on Makimaki a long time ago when I was posting those Japanese tales---remember? We were talking about the monk joke tales, and I think I mentioned that Miroku is the name of the Buddha that is supposed to leave heaven and come back to earth in about a thousand years.

Nope, don't remember it.

But don't feel bad because no one listens to me half the time either. We probably thought it was a very insignificant detail or something of that sort.

yeah...there in actuallity are tns of characters with names that actually mean something in Japanese stuff. They don't just pull random names out of a hat like here in USA.....except for us japan fans; we always do something meaningful with the names.

List of VRaptorX's character names.

Varanus: first part of the latin name for Komodo dragon
Duv: she's destined to be the savior and she's pretty loving
Mordecai: come on....you gotta have a biblical meaniac named Mordecai
Constolis: named because legend says a new Constolation appeared during his creation
Yokai: he's the creepy sub-human warrior. His species is like the demons of the world
Aria Akemi: Aria is derived of Aura.
Asp: she's the warrior female. Named after a snake
Hana: Japanese for flower. Destined for sacrifice
Dimeria: play on the word hysteria

VRaptorX's places names

Mizu: it's the port town. Japanese for water
Tur: "Urth" minus the h and put the T in front. Meant to sound earthy
Veca: meant to sound mechanical
Nacirema: it was an old class lesson about wording sentences that gave the impression that this was a different tribal country. It's American spelled backwards
Rah: meant to sound royal. Eqyption god
Lei mai: "reverse" of Mei Lai, a place where controversy hit in Vietnam war

VRaptorX's random character names

Vahren, Xaxi, Leru, Lena, Faust, Tso, Mideon, currently unnamed male character

VRaptorX's random place names

Ogat, current unnamed underground city
