Don't You Just HATE Page Requirements?I was up for a while last night trying to finish a paper for my honors 100 course, a paper that my professor wants to be five to eight pages long. It was ridiculous, because I was told not to summarize the book it was supposed to be about, and to analyze how the chapter I was assigned fit in with the whole. I was only able to write three and 1/5 pages. Double spaced.
Does anyone else think page length requirements are as idiotic as I do? Sure, if you don't set length requirements, then there's always going to be some jackass who thinks he can write two sentences and get full credit, but all the same, you can't expect all of us to have as much to write as the rest.
The book is called "The Altruism Equation" and as much as my professor harps on about it, it's a really BAD read. I don't even know how it got published, with all those grammatical errors at every turn....
In any case, length is a moronic thing to judge a paper on, but I wouldn't know how to eliminate the practice.

it would especially sucked if the chapter was less than the required pages.
Honestly, learn the lost art of bullshitting. Make words fancier and sentences longer. the more diverse the language in the paper, the less it seems like saying the same thing over and over. A good vocabulary really helps and if at all possible, squeeze in an extra word or two for each sentence. You'd be surprized on how much that itself helps.

Yeah, it helps, and I've been doing it. But no more, damn it all. I'm not going to play this game anymore. My professors either take what I give them or they give me an "F". End of story. Bullshitting may be an art, but it's also a pain in the ass, and I'm not going to spend an hour and a half trying to buff up the paper simply so I can get a better grade.
I'm not that desperate....

WOW! The most I've been asked to write is 3 pages and it took me forever.

I had to do a 10 page paper for my senior project in High School and had to make a presentation out of it as well.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do for my senior project.

3 pages isn't much at all when it comes to college. If any of your professors only ask you to write two or three pages, you have to be suspicious, lol!
Senior projects huh? What kind of high schools did/do you guys go to? Mine was fairly small, so I didn't have any sort of project or anything like that....

It's a requirment by the state of Pennsylvania so, it does not depend on what high school you go to, it depends on the state your in.

I see. I guess Colorado has a little lower standards than the rest of the country. It doesn't surprise me though.

My sister Alyssa has a professor that has a five page requirment for most papers. But the problem is that her professor gives out assinments that require five pages almost every day.

That's scary. My history teacher gives us one essay to do every single week, but it's usually 1-3 pages long.

This professor is also insane, lol!
No, it hasn't been so bad lately, because we've been giving presentations, so there hasn't been much homework as of late. There is a web assignment that was due today that's about two pages long though....
