I figured this would be the best place for this topic but why is the cross the Christian symbol? I mean...why sensationalize the thing that killed so many of your kind? It's like the Jews having the swastika as their symbol. Just seems a bit odd to me. Anyone care to explain?

Don't know for sure... I'm not Christian, after all. It seems to me, though, that it may be a sign of death in one respect, but it's also a sign of truth for many Christians. You have so many of the religion's leaders, especially one Jesus, and they were all sacrificed for awareness of the religion itself. It showed that the words of the religious leaders were powerful enough to make the Romans nervous enough to start killing the people who said it.
That's only my assumption, though. It could be for other reasons as well. In fact, different Christians probably wear the cross for different reasons altogether. There are probably a lot who do wear it at all for various reasons.
Can we hear from a Christian member? I'm sure I have at least ONE around here..... _________________

The cross is symbolic of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He died on a cross, which was a standard method of execution of the Romans at the time. However, the significance of it comes from the fact that he Resurrected three days later, and then after 500+ people saw Him and spoke with Him after his Resurrection, he ascended to Heaven.
The cross reminds us of the sacrifice made...because He died as atonement for the sins of the many, we therefore have no fear of death, because death isn't permanent, our spirits return to Heaven to be united with Jesus and the Father and the Holy Spirit. It also is a reminder that that was the price of our sins....it can help people think twice before doing something to harm other people. It's a useful symbol, because it is easily recognizable. We don't see it as equivalent to a swastika to Jews, anyway, the Jews didn't worship Hitler. What other symbol would there be? We have the white dove, representing the Holy Spirit, and we have the Bible itself. _________________ It's just four more miles. Everybody smile! |

hmm....well that Dove could be a cool symbol.
And hey, it would be funny seeing satanic symbols with that one. Since apparently all they do is put the cross upside down. It would just be funny seeing a bunch of people worshiping and upside down bird. You wouldn't be able to take em seriously _________________

The upside down cross isn't all that bad really. One of the apostles was martyred by crucifixion, and he demanded that he be crucified upside down, because he didn't deserve to die in the same manner as his Lord.
The Lion is also a symbol, hence CS Lewis' stories. Jesus is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, but is also symbolized as the Lamb too, because the traditional atonement sacrifice was a young lamb. Since Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice, he can be equated with the Lamb.
